Home Information

TH-4 is the fourth Huot House Project. After three years of successfully building tiny homes set on trailers, the students built their first home to be set onto a foundation. The goal was to continue to provide valuable training for the students and also provide much needed housing for a buyer that already had land and could get the site work completed to fit the build. The off-site custom-built home was offered as a complete package and included a washer/dryer, gas range/oven, microwave, refrigerator and dish- washer. The students were provided all of the materials from the Lakes Region Builders & Remodelers Association, which funds the program. Trade members from the association and businesses from the community provide materials sometimes at cost, or even free, to support the trades.

For students at the Huot Technical Center, they learn many skills from building an entire house from start to finish. The program allows first year students a good foundation of learning about the trades, safety, and tools and the second year students really begin to master building skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. It’s also a learning experience and a step toward their future. Upon completion the net proceeds from the sale help fund the next Huot build project.

The Lakes Region Builders & Remodelers Association (LRBRA) is proud to partner with the Huot Technical Center and industry professionals on one of the region’s most impactful workforce development initiatives - the Huot House program.

Each year, students in Huot Technical Center’s Building Construction and Plumbing & Heating programs work alongside LRBRA members to construct a fully functional Modular Home (Accessory Dwelling Unit, Tiny Home, etc.) from start to finish. Now in its ninth build, the program provides students with invaluable hands-on experience, allowing them to apply classroom learning in a real-world setting while developing the technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional standards required in today’s construction industry. The Huot Technical Center is now a Certified Modular Builder.

Throughout the school year, students participate in every phase of the build, including framing, insulation, window installation, flooring, cabinetry, trim work, painting, plumbing, and finish work. Guided by experienced instructors and industry professionals, they also gain exposure to career opportunities, apprenticeships, and scholarships while building connections with local trade experts.

Constructed inside the school's construction shop, each Tiny Home is built to current building codes and designed to be energy efficient. The success of the Huot House program has energized the construction and plumbing programs while helping shape students' career paths and inspire the next generation of skilled trade professionals.

As part of LRBRA’s ongoing commitment to workforce development, the association continues to support this meaningful initiative and the students who make it possible. For more information about getting involved or purchasing a future home, please contact LRBRA.
